DeGroote has prepared me to be a future leader in the workplace and kickstarted my career with a management perspective.

Why DeGroote?

DeGroote’s MBA program is one of the few schools in Canada with a co-op option. This allows me to apply the management and leadership skills I have learned in courses toward internship opportunities. The approachable MBA community and alumni drew my interest and has contributed to its strong reputation. In addition, dedicated support from faculty members and the CPD team has allowed students to achieve success both academically and professionally.

Why an MBA?

After earning my undergraduate degree in Mathematics/Business, I wanted to hone my business acumen and combine it with my technical skills and knowledge. With its collaborative and dynamic environment, DeGroote has prepared me to be a future leader in the workplace and kickstarted my career with a management perspective.

What surprised you about DeGroote?

DeGroote has been adaptable and accommodating during the pandemic. I was worried that it would be difficult to form genuine connections, but I was surprised at the school’s ability to foster an inclusive community in a virtual environment. The faculty has revised teaching practices to adjust to changing student needs and capabilities. The program has continued to offer many extracurricular opportunities so that students remain engaged and are able to network with peers, alumni, and organizations.

What piece of advice would you give to anyone considering doing their MBA at DeGroote?

Network with as many representatives as possible, such as members of the admissions team and my fellow MBA Student Ambassadors.

What has been the highlight of your DeGroote experience so far?

The highlight of my DeGroote experience has been the internships and networking. I’ve had the opportunity to spend two of my co-op terms at the same company and was their ambassador during my study terms. This allowed me to connect with a variety of industry professionals and interested students through hosting networking events.  Through coffee chats, I’ve learned more about my peers and their goals, shared my own experiences, and developed meaningful connections.

Aside from being an MBA Student Ambassador, what other extra-curricular activities have you been involved with while at DeGroote?
