Why DeGroote?
The thing that really stood out about DeGroote for me was the sense of community. From going through the application process, up until now, I have felt so much support from the staff, faculty and students, all of them showing interest in helping me develop and succeed both personally and professionally. That made a huge difference for me and was the main reason I chose DeGroote.
Why an MBA?
An MBA was a great way for me to accelerate my career, however I think the thing that was most appealing about an MBA was the diverse community of students you meet over the two year journey. An MBA gives you the opportunity to meet, network, and become friends with people from a variety of backgrounds (industries, countries, etc.). It provides an incredible learning experience for you to learn from the diversity of the people around you.
What surprised you about DeGroote?
How willing people are to help. My assumption going into this MBA experience was that people in an MBA program would be a bit cutthroat and too focused on competing or beating others in the cohort. This hasn’t been my experience with DeGroote at all. Whether it’s the faculty, staff, alumni or other students, everyone is so welcoming and willing to help! If I have questions about a certain course, industry or job, it only takes a LinkedIn message or coffee chat, and I can find the answers I’m looking for.
What piece of advice would you give to anyone considering doing their MBA at DeGroote?
Going through the application process can be a bit intimidating and I’m sure you have a bunch of questions, so just know that you’re not in it alone and there are a bunch of DeGroote community members that are here to support you throughout the process.
What has been the highlight of your DeGroote experience so far?
I’d say my highlight so far has been the podcast I started (Building Digital Community). When I started my MBA remotely, I decided to start a podcast where I can interview my peers and DeGroote alumni to help build community in a world where we couldn’t meet face to face. Through that I’ve been able to meet so many more people and we’ve been able to share some incredible stories! It has been an incredible experience so far!
Aside from being an MBA Student Ambassador, what other extra-curricular activities have you been involved with while at DeGroote?
